I had picked up some new soft sided bags for the trip, hoping they would be easier to pack. We packed light with just a weeks worth of clothing (mostly tee shirts shorts). I hadn't tried packing everything before the morning we were intended to leave, but everything did fit with a little spare room.
The route for today takes us from Virginia through West Virginia and into Kentucky.

Starting mileage 8839, about 12000 miles to go.
The first three days are a little heaver driving days so I wanted to get an early start, and we were able to get out just a little later than anticipated.
We will be stopping at a variety of different locations along the way, our first stop is at Foamhenge outside of Natural Bridge Virginia. This is suppose to be a full size replica of Stonehenge in England only constructed out of 400lb foam blocks. It looks like it's seen better days, but is weathering the elements and tourists well given it's made of foam.
We started in Virginia, I'm not sure whether we should count it now or when we return. I'm going to count West Virginia as our first state. They had a nice big sign with a wide pull off for photo ops.
Since we are on a road trip, we'll be having road food. The first stop is HillBilly Hotdogs in West Virginia. This recommendation is from Diners Drive-ins and Dives. The hotdogs were good, and you could get them with pretty much everything.
On to Kentucky. Unfortunately our plan for getting a picture of the car with each state welcome sign didn't last too long. There was construction that narrowed the bridge to a single lane so it wasn't possible to stop. We did however take a picture as we passed.
